A little on my identity/personality

My name is Nicolas Torres, greetings!!!
I come from a line of Spanish, French and Italians.  My favorite thing in the world is music.  Beside physics, chemistry and mathematics, another favorite subject I like, and would love to have more time for, is literature.  I like reading.  I enjoy the books I've read because I see it as art and an expression, or extension, of the author.  I'm basically a very knowledgeable person, and I enjoy this.

I'm that weird kid that enjoys studying (most times) and doesn't complain much about it.  Funny, when you think about it, mostly everybody enjoys studying, they might not say it though. But I enjoy the different topics I am presented with.  For me, music is the biggest expression of feeling.  Much like poetry, music can have many interpretations; both, music and poetry, require a lot of time to study and organized thoughts  My favorite genre is blues along with jazz.  Although I listen to a bit of everything, I especially like these because they employ feeling through the instrument directly.

My favorite artists are Stevie Ray Vaughan, an Texan blues guitarist, Eric Clapton, the Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and many many others!  Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble is one of the best old school bands, by this I mean that Vaughan played with a drummer and a bass player.  Eric Clapton is an English that plays blues as well as rock.  Also worth mentioning is Andrew Bird.  I like him because he uses a lot of loops in his music.  What this means is that he creates a rhythm, or a melody, and he records it while he plays it so that he can create a loop where this recording plays by itself and he can create other melodies with this.

I am a shy, introverted, insightful, enigmatic, romantic and expressive.  Some good, some bad qualities, like all of us.  I can be very practical at times and take things literal, especially when it’s a joke (rhetorical things…).  I have this feeling that listening to a genre of music gives a person the qualities socially appointed to a genre.  Bur the reality is that I like the music, and the music; it might sound depressive, but a quote I can really identify reads the following: “Sad is happy for deep people.”

The Perks of Being a Wallflower is a great book, one of my favorites. I liked it because I could sympathize with the protagonist Charlie.  I have to admit that reading the last chapter, I felt really confident, and was really motivated to just be alive.  In the last lines of the book, Charlie says that he doesn't know when he will send another letter because he will be too busy participating in life.  So, maybe you can see how "participating" is not something shy people do.

Here is a link on trailer of the movie based on the book.

  1. Wow, I love music too! And I totally get what you are saying about the kids that enjoy studying but don't admit it.

  2. I'm the hipster of the hipsters, I like studying what seems interesting, and I totally agree that a lot of people I know do not say that.

  3. I really like the interesting the that you can love science and math, and also love literature. Most people think that we should just stick to one or the other, but I find it really great when people can love both and be good at both, since it means we are all versatile and we shall not stick to only one thing. Thanks for sharing this little summary of who you are.

  5. Hello Nicolas! I really enjoyed your little intro! I could relate to a lot of it... especially when you say that 'music is the biggest expression of feeling'.
